Stock air intakes primarily aim to reduce engine noise, not optimize performance. And while reduced engine noise is nonetheless beneficial, it comes from an intake tube with multiple turns and bends. The result is a decrease in the volume of air fed into the combustion chamber, and due to the air box being completely confined in your engine compartment, the air that’s delivered to the engine is usually hot. This causes fuel-rich combustion mixtures that never burn at optimum power efficiency.
Performance air intake kits solve these issues in a simple yet effective manner. First, the upgrade involves replacing your stock intake tube with a wider and straighter pipe. In addition, the larger surface area improves the cold air filter’s ability to trap dirt particles.

Unlike stock paper air filters, which expire after an average of 15,000 miles, a performance air filter will do fine with a thorough cleaning and re-oiling, carried out every 30,000 – 50,000 miles.
